The Story Behind the Name

As 2024 comes to a close, I want to take a moment to share the story behind the name of my company. I landed on the name Maple Music Studios in early 2024, shortly after the passing of my grandfather.

Gerald Perry, better known to most as Gerry, Joe, Uncle Buck, or Poppa, was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and ran an old-fashioned sugar bush on his nearly 200-acre property in the Ottawa Valley. Some of my favourite childhood memories are from spending time with him and my grandmother at their house, out four-wheeling and snowmobiling on the mountain, collecting sap in metal pails and eating lots of taffy during sugar bush season.

My grandfather also had a deep love for music, particularly old-time country songs. Willie's Roadhouse was the only radio station that played in his truck or car. While he never pursued music seriously or became an especially skilled musician, he did know a few chords on the guitar. I remember a few occasions when I was younger where we got to play together. Those jam sessions are especially fond memories. When I went away to college, he gave me his guitar, so that I would have an instrument waiting for me at home. That guitar has always held a special place in my heart, and I knew I wanted to feature it prominently in my company's branding. In fact, it's even featured on the landing page of this website.

Gerry passed peacefully after a brief illness in December of 2023. By that time, I had already been planning to start this company to share the joy of music with others. After his passing, I knew that I wanted the company's name and brand to honor a man who had such a profound impact on my life. I chose the name Maple Music Studios because I wanted to keep a connection to the sugar bush that was such a huge part of my life and my family's history. Although the sugar bush is no longer operational, this name allows me to carry forward its legacy in a meaningful way. The maple branding might look more like a syrup company than a music studio, but that’s intentional—it’s a tribute to my roots and the family that shaped me.

Today marks one year and two days since his passing, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share this part of my story with all of you. Maple Music Studios is more than just a business; it’s a celebration of family, heritage, and the power of music to bring people together.

With this, I wish you and your family a joyful holiday season filled with love, laughter, and music. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I am looking forward to what 2025 has in store for us.
