Looking Back, Looking Forward
It’s hard to believe that Maple Music Studios has already wrapped up its first year in operation. When I launched the business last September, I couldn’t have imagined how rewarding the year would be.
Throughout this past year, I’ve had the privilege of teaching guitar, piano, voice, and ukulele to a wonderful mix of students. Watching people develop their musical abilities has been a joy, and sharing my love of music with others is something I look forward to every time I welcome a student for their lesson.
I’ve also had the pleasure of directing the Merrickville Community Choir — now known as the Voices of the Village — throughout this past year. We had a fantastic turnout at our very first registration session last September, and the choir has only grown in both numbers and spirit since then.
This year has also brought be some truly incredible opportunities. I spent the summer doing live sound for Ted and Marion Outerbridge, some of Canada’s best illusionists, and I’ve had the chance to work with Juno Award-winning artists including Lynn Miles and Keith Glass.
Looking ahead, there’s so much to be excited about:
- Maple Music Studios moved into a new lesson space at The Pews, allowing for expanded offerings in the year ahead.
- I’m continuing to lead music sessions for young children at the Merrickville Library every other month (our next session will be on November 22nd).
- This Saturday, October 18th, the choir will be performing at Green Gables Vines winery in Oxford Station as part of World Singing Day.
- In late November, Maple Music Studios will be recording a live album with the Keith Glass Band.
I’m grateful that Maple Music’s first year in operation was so successful and memorable. To everyone who has been part of this first year — students, choir members, performers who have trusted me to make them sound their best — thank you. I’m really looking forward to continuing to grow the business in the years to come, and I’m grateful that I get do so in the beautiful village of Merrickville.
